CF Flow Cytometry

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Center for Medical Research (ZMF) of the Medical University of Graz was established in 2005 and provides state–of–the–art instrumentation and expert technical assistance to investigators for the successful performance of flow cytometry based studies. The goal of the facility staff is both to support current research applications and to continuously extend the repertoire of flow cytometric methods available to scientists at the ZMF.

The Facility is equipped with two flow cytometers for basic and advanced (multicolor) analytical flow cytometry, FACSCalibur and LSR II (BD Biosciences). For viable cell sorting, the facility offers a high–speed digital cell sorter (BD FACSAria) for isolation of multiple sub–populations of cells, and a magnetic bead technology based device for single–cell purification (autoMACS; Miltenyi Biotec).

In addition, a multiplex suspension array system (Bio–Plex; BioRad) based on Luminex xMAP technology is available that permits the simultaneous quantitative analysis of multiple bioanalytes (e.g., cytokines, phosphoproteins) in a high–throughput format.

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility also maintains a Cell Bank offering quality–controlled cell banking service (cryogenic repository of cell lines) as well as expert cell?tissue culture consultation and services, such as mycoplasma testing, cell–based assays, etc., to all researchers of the Medical University.
